Born Kathryn Bridget Moynahan on April 28, 1971 in Binghamton, New York, to parents, Mary Bridget, a former school teacher and Edward Bradley Moynahan, a scientist and former administrator at the University of Massahusetts Amherst. She also went to Longmeadow High School in Massahusetts. She grew up with her two siblings, an older brother, Andy, who is a computer programmer, and a younger brother named Sean who is a Potter. She is also of mixed ethnicity as her parents are Irish Americans.
Moynahan modelling career started when she accompanied a friend to a modelling audition in Springfield, Massahusetts, and was signed by the modelling agency instead of her friend. She relocated to New York when she was 18 years of age and then a year later, she began to feature in top magazines which include the likes of Elle, Glamour, and Vogue.
She made her television debut with a guest appearance in the comedy series Sex and the City in 1999. She appeared in the television series Six Degrees and also featured as Erin Reagen in the CBS drama Blue Bloods from 2010 to 2024.
